A bouldering hall. It offers a very large bouldering space, for all levels and ages.
There’s a young children area for children from the age of 3, a family area where bigger children and adults can climb together, and a much bigger space for teens and adults.
They also have an area with different gym devices, places to sit and eat and rest, a bar selling food and drinks, coffee, pizza, cakes. There are vegan options.
It’s well lit, the lights mostly project on the climbing walls. But not overly lit.
Compared toother bouldering venues, the lighting is moderate, somewhere between the brightest and darkest ones.
The place has no windows.
Some areas are darker than others - like the cave area, and the middle corridor between the bouldering areas.
Before the afternoon - up until around 16:00, the place is quite empty. The earlier the emptier.
After 20:00 till closing time (21:45) is getting a bit emptier again.
16:00-20:00 is a much more crowded time. But that also depends on which area of the gym you are in.
Sometimes even during rush hour it’s possible to find space. The place is very big.
On weekends it’s also fuller than on weekdays. But mornings are still rather chill.
This venue is located in a historical wine cellar, and it’s built as multiple long corridors. This is why it echoes much less than other bouldering places that have a one-big-hall structure.
When it’s full it can still get loud
There is music, so proximity to the speaker makes a big difference. HOwever, staff is cooperative when requested to lower the volume, depending on who's on shift. Music styles also differ, depending on who's on shift and their individual taste in music. Sometimes it's karaoke hits, sometimes britpop and indie from 90’s-2000’s, sometimes instrumental jazzy, salsa, techno. They seem to play less techno compared to other gyms.
Sometimes near the counter/bar area you can smell pizza, but not all the time and it doesn’t waft to all the spaces.
Near the counter have the rental shoes, which smell like feet and disinfection product combined.
Sometimes people are stinky, but the space is big enough to manage to avoid them.
No smoking is allowed.
The place is in Friedenstr. 91B, which is not directly next to the road, but behind an area with a small playground. This area with the playground is between budni and lidl. When you pass the playground you will see the entrance right at the bottom of an outdoor stairway. It’s just there on the ground level.
When you go there for the first time, you have to enter a few details about yourself and sign something for insurance reasons.
You can do that on the station right in front of the counter, to the right side right after the entrance corridor. It’s a touchscreen computer and you can do it in German or English.
After you complete that you go to the counter and get a card, so you can scan it next time you come and they know who you are.
There you can either show an urban sports check in if you have it, or pay.
If you have no climbing shoes, you should mention you would need them, so you can rent them.
They have a student discount and other discounts, in addition - and early bird discount when you come earlier, so don’t forget to mention if you’re eligible for a discount.
If you don’t have your own lock, you can borrow a lock for some deposit (money or keys) you get back when you return the lock. So you can leave your stuff in the locker.
When you enter the entrance corridor, there are three doors on the left. The first one is a TIN* changing room and shower, with lockers. The second is an all-gender toilet, and the third a flinta* toilet. The flinta* toilet has 3 stalls inside. The all-gender I haven’t seen, but probably multiple as well.
They all smell good and are clean. The place is a bit more than 1 year old and well maintained.
If you turn right after the entry corridor and before the counter in the direction of the family wall, and go a few meters further along that wall, you will find two doors on the left side for the gendered changing rooms and each one has lockers, showers and toilets too. I was only in one of them but I think they’re similar. This one is more crowded than the TIN* one, but also much bigger. The toilet has 2 stalls. Also clean and smelling good.
