Schwules Museum shows changing exhibitions about queer history.
The light in most of the rooms is warm direct ceiling spots that can get in your eye at certain angles. One corner of the exhibition which centers around the history of the Schwules Museum has very bright cold light. Also some video installations contain strobe lights/ flickering lights.
The exhibition rooms contain different elements standing in the room so it occurs regularly that you stand really close to someone. Other than that there is enough room for walking around without bumping into another person. At the Museum there are 3–4 exhibition rooms so it‘s more likely that you find a less crowded space at any time of the day.
The museum plays quiet music on speaker in the entrance hall. In the exhibition area, all sounds from video installations are played over headphones, although sometimes you can hear them as background noises.
The museum and library are wheelchair accessible. However, to get in without steps, you will need to use the back entrance through the yard (Hof).
After entering you are facing the Empfangstresen (check-in) where a person will greet you and you can pay to get into the exhibition.
They will ask you to lock your belongings in a locker. The lockers are on the left of the Empfangstresen. The entrance to the exhibition is on the right of the Empfangstresen.
There are all-gender single-cell toilets in the entrance hall, left of the Empfangstresen, and there are toilets at the end of the exhibition. The toilets at the end of the exhibition are wheelchair accessible and ungendered.
