A clinic for bone density measurement and consultation regarding osteoporosis.
In the waiting room: daylight by the window and moderately bright wall lamps.
During the test: the room is darkened, but it has a semitransparent glass wall to the lab, so while lying on your back, you will be facing its somewhat diffused ceilling lights on the left. You are free to wear sunglasses and/or close your eyes during the test.
There can be several other patients in the waiting room with you, but it is spacious enough so you don't have to brush against strangers.
Sound in the waiting area depends on how loud the conversations are. Staff at the desk speak softly, but patients can still be conversing loudly with each other.
During the test, the machine whirrs as it scans you.
Disinfectant smell in the lab.
Ring the bell that says "Arztpraxis" and the building door will buzz you in automatically. The clinic is on the left. Ring the bell on the left side of the door to get admitted.
Set an appointment online or by email. You can also request a callback.
For the bone density measurement (DXA), you will need a valid referral from your GP or orthopedic doctor.
Bone density measurement is not covered by the Krankenkasse (public helth insurance), so you will have to pay 30 Euros for it at the clinic, card only. But you still need your public insurance ard to check in.
Upon arrival, go to the desk to register and pay for the test in advance. If it's your first visit, you will be asked to fill an intake form, in either paper of tablet format. Then you can take a seat and wait.
You will be called by name to the lab. First your blood will be taken (no need to fast for this test). Then you will be shown to the DXA machine and be asked to remove your shoes, your trousers, and any metal objects from your pockets, and place them on a chair by the machine. The lab technician will tell you what positions to lie in, all on your back: first with your calfs resting on a cube, then with stretched legs, with your feet fastened to a pespex pyramid, and arched first right, then left. For each position, the DXA machine will scan you for a couple of minutes, during which you may not move nor talk.
After the test you will be left to dress and put your shoes on. Once done, go to the desk to set an appointment with the doctor, where you will be given the results and doctor's report.
Single-cell all-gender toilet.
