During daylight: big windows allow in a lot of light. There isn't much direct sunlight though, because of the building's orientation.
Electric light is white and located high above, not at eye level.
Early mornings before 10-11 or around 18.30 till 20.00 it's really spaced out and quiet.
From 11 - 18.00 it's fullish (sometimes finding a seat may mean sharing a desk eith a stranger, and often several strangers sit at the same long tables.
People don't really interact, except maybe to ask someone else to move to reach a free chair or a plug socket.
Fairly quiet, but not complete silence, as there are always people walking up and down, and eating at library tables is permitted.
Thus, there is the ambient sound of crockery and cutlery, footsteps, whispers, doors opening and closing. Not much conversation though.
A vending machine on premises sells foam ear plugs.
Rather well-ventilated, because of people regularly walking in and out doors on both sides of the main building.
Otherwise: books, people and some foods give the library smell.
No parking, U Halleschen Tor and U Mehringdam are a 5min walk away.
The Cafe is located next to mthe magazine and music room.
The downstairs area has a children's section, a board game section, and a little courtyard with tables.
Entry is wheelchair accessible.
Librarien info desks for: library card registration (you need proof of ID), advice on content, help locating things, signing up for music practice room slots.
Items that can be borrowed include: books, graphic novels/comics, DVDs (fiction, docus, movies and entire series), games and paintings.
Cafe for: food and coffee and soft drinks. Order at the bar.
To get in you do not have to lock your bag in a locker or be a registered library member. You can just enter, work, hang out and use the internet conection.
It is allowed to enter withfood and drinks.
All gender toilets exist in the Pop Up (adjacent building).
